As CEO of Exterion Media, Europe’s largest privately held out-of-home advertising business, Shaun is responsible for the company’s leadership and growth. Its core business is to engage and deliver valuable audiences for advertisers.
An advocate of new media, Shaun firmly believes that technology, mobile, personalisation and ultimately data will transform the industry. His in-depth knowledge of complementary and emerging technologies will position Exterion Media at the heart of media convergence, enhancing its ability to engage with audiences on the move and maximise the potential of the digital transition.
Before joining Exterion Media, Shaun was Global Director of Advertising for Telefónica, responsible for leading and developing the advertising businesses in 26 markets across the globe. He has also held the position of Managing Director of O2 Media, Chief Executive of start-up Blyk, New Media Director at The Telegraph Media Group as well as a Board Director for Emap. He’s helped transform newspapers into digital media companies, developed some of the UK’s most innovative media brands, including Kiss, Magic and Kerrang, and launched the world’s first advertiser-funded mobile network. More recently, he was the first Executive in the UK to launch a successful opt-in strategy out of an established mobile operator – WEVE, a UK joint venture between Vodafone, Everything Everywhere and Telefónica.
Believing in the importance of giving back and broadening experiences, Shaun has been involved with a number of early-stage start-ups and executive boards. He has served on industry trade bodies, including the Global Board of the Mobile Marketing Association, and is a Non Executive Director on various boards including Proxama, a global mobile platform provider. Prior to joining Exterion, Shaun was also a Non Executive Director of Ocean Outdoor, the UK’s leading player in large format digital Out-of-Home.
He was described by Campaign Magazine as ‘a leading authority on personalisation’ and was listed in the top 50 most influential people in Media by New Media Age.
A lifelong Sheffield United fan, Shaun enjoys running and gardening and lives in Sussex with his wife and two daughters – who keep him very busy!
